LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a monthly stipend of Rs 25000 for mosque imams across Punjab.

This step is to support those imams who strive to guide and help people in their daily lives. About 65000 such imams will benefit from this latest decision. Imams lead daily prayers and help people in matters of faith and community life.

Many do this work with dedication, but their income is often limited. The stipend will help them manage their basic needs with more stability. It also shows that the government values its role in society.

Many have welcomed the announcement, particularly from smaller towns and villages where often the imams get very meager amounts. Some have even said the government mustn’t stop investing in education, health, and jobs with this stipend.

Even then, the stipend is seen as a no-brainer to ensure religious community support. The monthly honorarium of Rs 25000 to mosque imams is proposed to make life easier for them and honor what they are doing in service to society.

More will be known when the scheme reaches the implementation stage. For the time being, it is a useful initiative for those who guide communities day in and day out.
