ISLAMABAD: The demand for petroleum products in the country is expected to increase significantly over the next few years.

According to the latest data from the oil sector, fuel consumption is continuously increasing in Pakistan due to the growing population, increase in the number of vehicles and expansion of industrial activities.

According to reports, the total consumption of petroleum products in the country during the ongoing financial year 2025-26 is estimated to be about 18.64 million metric tons. If the current pace continues, this demand can further increase to 20.92 million metric tons in the next five years.

According to the data, the demand for petroleum products is expected to increase by about 2.28 million metric tons by the financial year 2029-30. This increase is more than 12 percent compared to the current consumption, which is being described as a significant development in the energy sector.

According to energy experts, the number of motorcycles, cars and other means of transport in the country is continuously increasing. Along with this, there is also a rapid increase in the activities of the industrial sector, due to which the demand for petrol, diesel and other fuels is increasing.

Experts have warned that if the local refining and storage capacity is not increased in time, the import bill may increase further in the future. This situation is also feared to put additional pressure on the foreign exchange reserves and the country’s economy.

On the other hand, citizens are already worried about the high prices of petroleum products in the country. The public says that the increase in petrol and diesel prices has a direct impact on transport, food items and other items of daily use, which further increases inflation.
