LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on burning and roasting of sari pai across the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.

A formal notification in this regard was issued by the Local Government Department.

According to the notification, under Section 144, burning, roasting and disposal of sari pai in public places will be banned in such ways that may cause environmental pollution.

The notification states that burning of sari pai in different areas during Eid-ul-Adha creates severe smoke and odor, which pollutes the environment and also creates health problems for citizens.

According to officials, the smoke released by this process can enter the air and cause an increase in respiratory, eye and other diseases.

The Local Government Department has issued instructions to all Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and concerned local government officers to ensure strict implementation of the ban and legal action should be taken against violators.

The authorities have appealed to the citizens to follow the government instructions to maintain cleanliness and environment and dispose of the waste of sacrificial animals at designated places.

The Punjab government says that special cleaning operations will also be continued to maintain a clean environment during the Eid days.
