Cotton arrivals plummet nearly 50% last year

ISLAMABAD: As of October 15, 2024, seed cotton equivalent to 3.1 million bales has reached ginning factories across Pakistan, which is 48.27% less than the same period last year.

According to the fortnightly report of the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) released to the media on Friday, 2.7 million bales have gone through the ginning process i.e. converted into bales.

Cotton arrivals in Punjab were recorded at 1,185,647 bales which is 53.38% less than the same period last year when arrivals were recorded at 2,543,100 bales.

Sindh produced 1,916,096 bales, which is 44.51 percent less than the same period last year when 3,452,986 bales were recorded. The arrival of 94 thousand 850 bales was recorded in Balochistan.

Traders bought 3,200 bales of cotton while the textile sector bought a total of 2,590,977 bales. According to the report, Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has not yet started procurement of cotton in 2024-25. There was a stock of 507,566 unsold bales. A press release issued here said that a total of 536 ginning factories is functioning in the country.
