E-taxi scheme moves forward as Punjab finalizes candidates

LAHORE: The Government of Punjab has achieved significant success in its eco-friendly e-taxi initiative, with hundreds of applicants moving to the next stage of the program.

According to official sources, some 380 candidates have already deposited their down payment, indicating a high level of interest in this particular initiative.

Provincial official Bilal Akbar Khan said, “A total of 1,100 candidates have been shortlisted after a balloting process. We have initiated the process of contacting candidates for payment requirements, and scrutiny is almost complete.” In total, more than 350,000 applications have been received for this initiative.

Under this scheme, the Punjab government has planned to launch 1,100 electric taxis with a subsidy of Rs. 6 billion. The minimum amount of the down payment has been fixed at Rs. 650,000, and the maximum amount goes up to Rs. 850,000.

According to the officials, those who have already deposited their down payments will soon be able to receive their vehicles.

This scheme has been designed in a way that encourages participation from the corporate sector, women, and professional drivers, ensuring environmental protection along with social and economic benefits.
