ISLAMABAD: Questions have been raised among the public regarding the cashback offer by Easypaisa as to whether this scheme is Shariah-compliant or not.
According to the details, Easypaisa is offering its users a cashback of Rs. 200 if they deposit Rs. 1,000 in their account and load their mobile. Many users have questioned whether this is permissible according to Islamic principles.
According to religious experts and jurisprudential sources, this matter falls under the category of interest on debt, which is Shariah-imposed. According to experts, when a user deposits money in Easypaisa, he actually lends money to the institution, and it is forbidden to take or give any kind of conditional benefit or profit on the loan.
Scholars say that if a company gives a benefit with a condition on the money deposited with it, such as cashback, bonus or additional money, then it becomes similar to interest, even if it is called cashback.
