ISLAMABAD: In a welcome development for the inflation-hit citizens, electricity prices are likely to come down across the country, including Karachi.
The Power Division has submitted an application to implement a uniform tariff structure across the country with a proposed reduction in basic electricity rates for domestic consumers.
According to official documents, a reduction of Rs 1.16 per unit in the basic tariff for domestic consumers is being proposed, which will likely reduce the maximum domestic rate from Rs 48.84 to Rs 47.69 per unit.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hear the application on July 1.

• Lifeline (51-100 units): Rs7.74/unit (unchanged)
• Protected users (up to 100 units): Rs10.54/unit (down Rs1.15)
• Protected (101-200 units): Rs13.01/unit
• Non-Protected (1-100 units): Rs22.44/unit
• 101–200 units: Rs28.91/unit (down Rs1.16)
• 201–300 units: Rs33.10/unit (down Rs1.16)
• 301–400 units: Rs37.99/unit (down Rs1.16)
• 401–500 units: Rs40.22/unit (down Rs1.14)
• 501–600 units: Rs41.62/unit (down Rs1.16)
• 601–700 units: Rs42.76/unit (down Rs1.16)
• Above 700 units: Rs47.69/unit (down Rs1.05)
Earlier, NEPRA had approved a Rs1.50 per unit cut in the national base tariff for the upcoming fiscal year and sent its decision to the federal government for implementation under the unified tariff policy.
