NEPRA approves reduction in electricity tariff

NEPRA approves reduction in electricity tariff

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a Rs1.50 per unit cut in the minimum tariff of electricity, giving relief to consumers.

The new average tariff for distribution companies will be Rs34 per unit, as per the NEPRA ruling.

The ruling has been sent by the authority to the federal government for official notification, which will be made after the government decides on subsidies.

Earlier, the NEPRA had cut the tariff of K-Electric (KE) by Rs2.99 per unit.

Under the monthly fuel adjustment for March, the cut has been made as per a notification released here, and the cut will be seen in June electricity bills, providing some relief to KE consumers in the face of rising power prices and lingering load-shedding in Karachi.

Simultaneously, the metropolis has been suffering from aggravated unscheduled load-shedding during peak summer months, bringing not just citizens but also parliamentary members into protests.
