ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that there will be no extension in the filing of income tax returns for the financial year 2024.

In a statement issued by FBR, it was clarified that the news circulating in various media regarding the extension of the period for submission of income tax returns is false.

The announcement urges all taxpayers to file their income tax returns promptly to avoid fines and penalties.

Sources had earlier hinted that a one-month extension in filing income tax returns may be possible as system overload is preventing citizens from filing returns.

According to FBR sources, under the current system, only salaried individuals are managing to file tax returns while those with heavy data or large files are facing difficulties in processing.

So far, more than 3.5 million people have filed their income tax returns. It is important that FBR has set the last date for submission of tax returns as September 30.
