KARACHI: The Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) Karachi has sealed an outlet of Zellbury, a well-known online fashion shopping platform, for issuing unverified sales tax invoices.

The action was taken as part of an ongoing crackdown on tax non-compliance.

Inland Revenue of LTO Karachi Zone-1 carried out the operation against the Zelbury outlet, located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi. The outlet was sealed over violation of tax regulations.

“Under the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and the Sales Tax Rules, 2006, all Tier-1 retailers are legally required to issue sales tax invoices through a Point of Sale (POS) Integrated System, as per the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR),” according to the press release issued.

LTO Karachi identified the outlet over the issuance of unverified invoices and invoked the relevant provisions of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, to initiate legal proceedings.

The outlet will remain sealed until further orders, pending a thorough review of its compliance status, the press release read.
