ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif kept the chairmanship of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) as Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has been removed from the crucial post in ECNEC.
PM Shehbaz Sharif notified the newly formed eight-member committee of the constitutional forum, deciding that the Finance Minister would not chair the Ecnec, which the finance minister traditionally leads. Prime Minister Sharif is also the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Energy.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Friday, the ECNEC committee consists of eight members total including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal from the Centre.
Others include Punjab’s senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro from Sindh, Adviser to Chief Minister Muzammil Aslam representing Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan Finance Minister Shoaib Nosherwani representing Balochistan as the provincial members.
Earlier, the prime minister had already appointed Ishaq Dar as the head of the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation, while Finance Minister Aurangzeb is heading only two committees of the cabinet, including the Economic Coordination Committee and the Committee on State-Owned Enterprises.
