Inflation reaches 6.34pc in June

ISLAMABAD: Inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 6.34 per cent in June, on the back of increasing transport and food prices, according to data shared by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

According to the report, potato prices rose by 36.64 per cent, eggs by 19.98 per cent, lentils by 17.42 per cent, pulses by 14.03 per cent, gram by 13.62 per cent, wheat by 13.03 per cent, edible ghee by 12.86 per cent, tomatoes by 9.03 per cent and rice by 11.67 per cent.

Chicken became cheaper by 7.83 per cent, flour by 3.76 per cent and vegetables by 3.54 per cent in June, the report stated.

Monthly, tomatoes became cheaper by 27.70 per cent, potatoes by 25.85 per cent, eggs by 19.96 per cent, cooking oil by 18.27 per cent and ghee by 17.16 per cent, while chicken became cheaper by 11.10 per cent, flour by 4.01 per cent and fruits by 3.54 per cent. Onion became costlier by 124.30 per cent, tomato by 121.72 per cent, ghee by 76.71 per cent, lentils by 74.32 per cent and edible oil by 70.8 per cent.

On the other hand, in urban areas, the prices of spices have gone down by 20.11 per cent, lentils by 18.46 per cent and sugar by 11.28 per cent in a year. During the period, prices of gram rose by 65.36 per cent, fruits by 40.93 per cent, chicken by 33.62 per cent, lentils by 14.64 per cent, spices by 11.58 per cent and sugar by 10.3 per cent.
