ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has established new customs values, which will result in higher prices for imported used mobile phones, which are recognized as used devices in Pakistan.
The custom values of Samsung devices, Apple devices, Google devices, and OnePlus devices have increased, which leads to higher PTA tax costs for each device.
The PTA tax, which applies to these devices, needs to increase according to the new value assessments. The base iPhone 15 has a custom value of $378, and this value serves as the basis for calculating the PTA tax, which should now reach Rs. 46,500.
The PTA-approved imports of new products should reach a final price of Rs. 150,000 to Rs. 180,000 or more since a used non-PTA iPhone 15 sells for between Rs. 100,000 and Rs. 130,000 in Pakistan.
As for the iPhone 15 series, the previous custom values were:
These values have now been updated to:
Based on these increased values, the PTA tax applied to these devices should also be higher.
The iPhone 15 Plus has a PTA tax value of about Rs. 47,000 when we apply a $390 rate to it. The final price of a newly imported, used, and PTA-approved iPhone 15 Plus can be expected to reach between Rs. 150,000 and Rs. 180,000 since a non-PTA iPhone 15 Plus costs the same as a standard iPhone 15 in Pakistan.
The custom value for the iPhone 15 Pro is a lot higher at $472, which converts to a PTA tax of around Rs. 51,300. The retail price of future imports will reach Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 230,000 because we can calculate their value by adding this amount to the standard price of a non-PTA used iPhone 15 Pro, which costs between Rs. 150,000 and Rs. 180,000 in Pakistan.
