ISLAMABAD: Professional butchers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have apparently seen a sudden jump in demand right before Eid al-Adha, and the odd part is that bookings for the first day of Eid reportedly are already shut in several places.
As per the local market bits, the rates for slaughtering and meat preparation of sacrificial animals have also been settled daily, like separately for each Eid day.
For the very first day of Eid, butchers are taking roughly Rs. 25,000 for slaughtering and meat preparation of big animals such as cattle, while for goats and sheep the figure is fixed at around Rs. 12,000.
On the second day, the charges for large animals are said to fall to about Rs. 23,000, and the slaughtering of small animals will cost near Rs. 10,000.
For the third day, the rates have been set at Rs. 20,000 for large animals and Rs. 9,000 for goats and sheep, in other words. Reports add that butcher shops across the twin cities have been temporarily closed for their usual routine work, and they are expected to open again in early July, because Eid-related workload is heavy.
At the same time, professional butchers coming from rural parts of Rawalpindi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Hazara, Haripur, Abbottabad, and Azad Kashmir have reached the twin cities, bringing along slaughtering equipment, so they can cope with the extra rush during the Eid days.
