KARACHI: Demand to increase milk price by Rs 100 per liter has surfaced, the association has written a letter to the Commissioner Karachi demanding a review of the official price of milk.

According to the details, Karachi’s dairy farmers have demanded an increase of Rs 100 per liter in the official price of milk and the Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association has cited rising costs as the reason for this demand.

The Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association said that there has been a significant increase in fodder, electricity, petrol and other business expenses, due to which it has not been possible to sell milk at the current official price.

The association has written a letter to the Commissioner Karachi demanding a review of the official price of milk.

Association official Shakir Gujjar says that the dairy sector is facing a severe financial crisis and farmers cannot continue their business at the current prices.

Dairy farmers further said that the prices of fodder and other milk-related items have increased by up to 75 percent, and the next course of action will be announced soon after internal consultations.

Mubasher Qadeer Abbasi warned that the supply of milk in Karachi could also be affected due to the shortage of working capital.

If the demand for an increase in the price of milk is accepted, it is likely to put an additional burden on citizens who are already suffering from inflation, however, dairy farmers are of the opinion that due to increasing costs, it is not possible to maintain the current official price.
