LAHORE: The Punjab government had decided to issue ATM cards instead of using the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to provide cash assistance to victims of the recent devastating floods.
The Debit cards will be provided to the affected families after a survey is conducted in the flood-affected areas, as the provincial government has assured that it will compensate the residents who incurred losses in the recent deluges.
News reports stated the ATM Cards would be distributed to flood victims following thorough scrutiny by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), Punjab Land and Revenue Authority (PLRA), and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).
The provincial government will deposit a cash amount into the flood victim, which he/she will be able to draw through the ATM cards.
The government has, however, not revealed any information regarding how much amount of money will be distributed among the people through Debit cards.
In the meantime, PM’s Adviser and Senator Rana Sanaullah have serious objections to the data of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
He said this in reaction to a press conference addressed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders. Sanaullah explained his positions on a number of matters, such as the provincial water allocation and the current political dynamics between the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Sanaullah reacted to PPP leadership remarks regarding Punjab’s water share, specifically noting that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz spoke only about the province’s water share and did not utter a word regarding the sharing of water in other provinces. He noted that so long as Punjab’s portion remains within its borders, there must be no complaint.
