ISLAMABAD: Cement prices have risen yet again across Pakistan. Here are the newest rates, as of 24 May. The cost of a 50kg cement bag has kept going up, this time from April, and seems not to stop.

Latest market data shows that cement prices right now are moving around Rs1,350 to Rs1,550 per bag. At the same time, the average sits somewhere between Rs1,390 and Rs1,450 per bag.

The main cement brands are currently priced at these levels as of May 24, and yes, the numbers have been pretty sharp. Cement prices have risen sharply across Pakistan, and this is adding pressure on the construction sector while also raising worries for consumers and builders.

As per market reports, the price of a 50kg bag has gone up from Rs 822 to Rs 1,091. Taxes and duties are reportedly taking up around 38% of the whole cost.

Industry sources say this hike is not just about demand and supply; it also seems tied to tax steps and wider policy issues that are affecting the industry. Experts also mention that electricity, gas, and fuel costs are climbing, and that is acting as a key trigger.

On top of that, higher transportation expenses have played a role, pushing production and distribution expenses higher across the board. Analysts warn that if this pattern keeps going, construction activity could slow even more, which may later affect jobs and economic growth in related businesses.

Builders and consumers, meanwhile, have urged the government to step in and to bring prices down. They said the continued climb is making housing and infrastructure work increasingly hard to afford, for regular people as well as for project teams
