ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan is reportedly considering imposing a nationwide lockdown as the country faces mounting economic and administrative challenges.

According to sources, a proposal has been put forward to increase petroleum prices by up to Rs220, a move that could significantly impact inflation and the cost of living.

In the education sector, the federal government has suggested closing schools across the country starting May 22. However, a proposal to abolish the weekly Friday holiday has been rejected.

Despite the tough economic conditions, the Ministry of Finance has proposed a 7% increase in salaries for government employees and a 5% rise in pensions in the upcoming budget.

The developments indicate that authorities are weighing difficult decisions to manage the ongoing situation while providing limited relief to public sector workers.
