Pakistan invites Azerbaijan to participate in PIA, other entities’ privatisation

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Privatisation, Investment Board and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan called on Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov in Baku, where both discussed several matters including the sale of national carrier PIA.

Aleem Khan is in Azerbaijan on a two-day visit to attend various meetings aimed at discussing investment opportunities and strengthening bilateral relations.

Aleem Khan offered Azerbaijan government to take part in the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Utility Stores, Zarai Taraqiati Bank, Discos, and other state-owned entities.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, as well as strengthening ties between the business communities of both countries.

“Discussions with the Azerbaijani government on government-to-government and business-to-business partnerships regarding privatization in Pakistan were discussed in the meeting,” the Privatisation Ministry said in a statement.

“Pakistan and Azerbaijan could make mutual investments in the LNG and renewable energy sectors while IT, telecom, agriculture, energy, and other sectors are also open,” the federal minister was quoted as saying.
