ISLAMABAD:  The new prices of petroleum products for next week will be decided today, with a reduction of Rs 6.50 per liter in petrol prices.

Sources say that the price of high-speed diesel is likely to increase by Rs 28.84 per liter, however, the government may change the petroleum levy to reduce the huge increase in diesel prices.

According to sources, the final decision regarding the prices of petroleum products will be taken after consultation with the Prime Minister, which is likely to be announced tonight.

On the other hand, electricity has become more expensive for consumers across the country, including Karachi.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued a notification to increase electricity rates by Rs 1.19 per unit as part of the monthly fuel price adjustment.

According to the notification, this increase in electricity prices has been made under the monthly adjustment of April 2026. This decision will be applicable to consumers across the country as well as to K-Electric consumers. The additional charges will be collected in the electricity bills of the current month of June, which will further increase the financial burden on consumers.

It may be recalled that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested NEPRA for an increase of Rs 1.73 per unit for the fuel adjustment of April 2026, however, NEPRA approved an increase of Rs 1.19 per unit after reviewing the request.
