MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced July 27, 2026, as the polling date for the upcoming general elections.
In view of the elections, the Chief Election Commissioner has imposed a ban on new government appointments, transfers, and postings across Azad Kashmir. The restriction will remain in place to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
The Election Commission has also prohibited the launch of new development schemes and projects during the election period, in line with the election code of conduct.
According to the notification issued by the Election Commission, candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers to the respective Returning Officers from June 9 to June 19, 2026.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on June 20, while appeals against the accepted or rejected papers can be filed from June 21 to June 24.
As per the schedule, the Election Commission will hear the appeals on June 26 and 27, while the decisions on the appeals will be announced on June 28 and 29. The last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers for the candidates has been fixed as June 30.
The Election Commission will release the final list of candidates on July 1, while the election symbols will be allotted to the candidates on July 2. The final list of candidates along with the election symbols will also be published on the same day.
According to the notification, polling will continue uninterrupted from 8 am to 5 pm on July 27. The Election Commission has said that all arrangements are being finalized to conduct the elections in a transparent, free, fair and impartial manner.
According to a statement issued by the Election Commission Secretariat Muzaffarabad, an effective system of coordination has been established with the relevant administrative bodies, district authorities and law enforcement agencies during the election process so that the election phases can be completed in a peaceful and orderly manner.
According to the Election Commission, this notification will come into effect immediately.
