ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that Pakistan will maintain its current petroleum product prices because the government wants to protect the financial interests of citizens who make up its population.

The upcoming petroleum price assessment will determine that petrol maintains its current price of Rs 32117 per litre and diesel remains at Rs 33586 per litre until the assessment period ends.

The prime minister said the decision was taken in line with a promise made to the public and aimed at providing relief during difficult economic conditions.

PM stated that his organization will deliver support through all existing channels during the current difficult situations because geopolitical conflicts have started to affect the world economy, with major effects on Pakistan.

The government uses timely policy decisions together with austerity measures and financial discipline to control the current situation. Sharif stated that he will start his public service by implementing measures that will decrease expenses for low-income citizens through government spending reductions and restrictions on expenditures by high-income citizens.

He said provincial governments are also supporting the federal government’s austerity measures, which he described as encouraging. The prime minister stated that Pakistan possesses enough crude oil to satisfy its domestic requirements because of the successful work done by the country’s diplomatic and economic teams.

He said federal and provincial authorities work together to make sure all retailers follow government-established fuel price limits. Sharif expressed hope that global conditions would improve and that stability would return to international petroleum markets.
