ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed officials to finalize the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by June 2025, four months ahead of the October deadline to meet the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions.

According to media reports, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Privatization and PIA officials have been directed to expedite the process. Sources said that a security audit will be conducted to facilitate the reopening of US flight routes, a move aimed at improving the financial condition of PIA.

Sources said that consultations with the US Federal Aviation Authority will begin soon. A delegation of US experts will visit Pakistan in March or April for further talks.
