KARACHI: To control prices during Ramadan, the Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has issued a notification setting official prices for flour and bread in Karachi.

According to the notification, the official rates of No. 2.5 flour are fixed at Rs83 per kg for wholesale and Rs87 for retail. Fine flour is at Rs88 per kg if sold wholesale, while the retail price is fixed at Rs92 per kg, and Chakki flour is Rs100 per kg.

However, there is no coordination between the official prices and market rates. In the market, fine flour is being sold at a price range of Rs90 to Rs100 per kg, while Chakki flour costs Rs110 to Rs115 per kg.

Although the notification fixes the price of a 100-gram roti at Rs10 and a 120-gram naan at Rs15, but in local markets, the Naan is being sold at the range of Rs25 to Rs28, while chapati is sold between Rs18 and Rs20.

To curb price hikes during Ramadan, the Commissioner Karachi has issued a notification with revised prices for groceries and other essentials. Vegetable and fruit prices will be officially announced every day.

Additionally, a complaints cell has been set up at the Commissioner’s office to prevent overpricing, and Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to take stern actions against violators, including fines and arrest
