KARACHI: The Sindh government has launched a major project to provide free solar systems for low-income families across the province.
Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro formally inaugurated the second phase of the free solar program during a ceremony held in Qambar Shahdad Kot. Solar kits were also distributed among deserving families on this occasion.
Nisar Khuhro, while addressing the ceremony, said that this project is part of the vision of Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, which aims to provide clean and affordable energy to every home. A total of 275,000 families across Sindh will be given free solar systems.
He said that 10,000 solar kits will be distributed in Qambar Shahdad Kot district alone. While the process of identifying deserving families is also being completed so that maximum needy people can benefit from this facility.
According to the PPP Sindh President, 247 eligible families have been verified so far, out of which 100 families have been provided with solar kits initially. This project will be expanded across the province in phases.
Nisar Khuhro said that the Sindh government is already taking large-scale steps for the rehabilitation of flood victims, and so far millions of people have been provided with new houses.
He said that the common citizens are under severe pressure due to the current economic situation, inflation and energy crisis, in such a situation, this free solar scheme will help in bringing a significant reduction in the electricity bills of the people.
