KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken an important decision to lift the limit imposed on wheat sale, after which small farmers will be able to sell their produce without any restrictions.
A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister regarding wheat procurement in which this important policy change was approved.
It was decided in the meeting that the condition of selling 5 sacks of wheat per acre has also been lifted, which will provide significant relief to the farmers and farmers of the province. The aim of this move is to provide more convenience to the farmers and strengthen the agricultural economy.
Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the concerned authorities to ensure that Assistant Commissioners and Mukhtiarkars regularly visit the procurement centers and maintain close contact with the farmers so that no complaints are raised.
He also directed to further intensify the wheat procurement campaign and ensure prompt payments to the farmers. The Chief Minister clarified that a zero tolerance policy will be adopted for any irregularities in the procurement process.
Briefing the meeting, Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman said that the wheat procurement campaign has been going on since April 1 and the Sindh government has set a target of purchasing 1 million metric tons of wheat this year. Wheat has been cultivated on about 1.94 million acres in the province.
Expressing satisfaction over the payment system, the Sindh Chief Minister said that timely payments are very important for the confidence of the farmers. He directed that all eligible farmers should sell their wheat at government procurement centers to ensure food security.
He added that farmers who sell wheat to the government will also be eligible for subsidy in the future, which is a positive development for the agriculture sector.
