KARACHI: Solar net metering is fast becoming a very cost-effective source of electricity in Pakistan, thereby reducing fuel costs for all consumers. The distribution companies purchased 573.7 million units from the net metering consumers in the last four months, boosting clean energy integration.

Monthly purchases grew steadily: 115 million units in July, 111 million in August, and 142 million in September, while October led in procurement.

MEPCO topped the number with 157.7 million units, followed by IESCO with 139.7 million and LESCO with 134.3 million. The remaining DISCOs contributed considerably.

Since net metered electricity has effectively zero fuel cost, it will ease the monthly Fuel Charge Adjustments and stabilize consumer bills nationwide.

The officials said that solar-fed net metering now plays a significant role in the stability of power supply costs amidst ongoing tariff debates.

Growing adoption of rooftop solar demonstrates the increasing traction for Pakistan’s transition towards an ‘affordable, decentralized, and sustainable energy solution’ for homes and businesses.
