Alumni demands bailout package for QAU

Islamabad: The alumni of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) have demanded that the federal government announce an immediate bailout package to overcome the financial crisis faced by the top-ranked higher education institution in Pakistan, named after the country’s founder.

The alumni of the university have expressed their desire for financial support to overcome the annual deficit of over 800 million rupees, based on the institution’s remarkable performance in the most recent QS World University Ranking.

This will allow the institution to earn more recognition both regionally and internationally.

This request was made at a meeting of the QAU Alumni Association Founders Group Core Committee, which was presided over by Dr. Abdul Basit and included leading Quaidians.

The participants pledged to work with QAU to find a solution to this pressing problem, which would have a negative impact on the performance and day-to-day operations of QAU.

By previous practice, QAU alumni are standing by their alma mater during this crucial time, and a coordinated plan will be developed in consultation with all parties involved.

“It is our collective responsibility to preserve this premier federal higher education institution in Pakistan, whose graduates are providing invaluable services in a variety of sectors both domestically and internationally,” they said during the conference.

The meeting was informed that QAU has not been able to pay for lab chemicals, teaching, pensions, student fellowships and scholarships, or even office supplies since January 2023.

The alumni resolved that, as the Prime Minister of Pakistan has recently declared an education emergency in the country, QAU should be provided with a bailout package immediately to save the future of over twelve thousand enrolled students.

Furthermore, they said, It was unanimously decided to continue practical efforts and strengthen existing initiatives aimed at the welfare of Quaidians, promoting togetherness, positivity, and connectivity among Quaidians and paying back to their alma mater.
