CM Maryam launches ‘Chief Minister Transport Programme’ for college girls

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched the first phase of the ”Chief Minister Transport Programme”, at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister invited students on stage and symbolically handed over the keys of the new buses to the principals of these colleges.

She also inspected the buses and reviewed the proposal for providing air-conditioned buses to the institutions, expressing her commitment to improving facilities for students.

Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz said, “This program is part of our broader commitment to empowering women through education. By providing safe and reliable transportation, we are ensuring that girls from all parts of Punjab can continue their studies without any hurdles.”

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the program, which aims to provide a total of 76 buses to girls’ colleges in three phases.

The first phase of the Chief Minister Transport Program distributed 19 buses to girls’ colleges across 19 tehsils, including Bhakkar, Sialkot, and Chiniot.

The program is part of the government’s effort to promote women’s education and provide reliable transportation to students.

In the second phase, buses will be given to colleges in Nowshera Virkan, Dina, Yazman, and other areas, while the third phase will see the distribution of two more buses and 32 coaches to 35 additional tehsils by March-April 2025.

The initiative was launched in response to the Lahore High Court’s directives to provide transport facilities to educational institutions.

Earlier, The Lahore High Court (LHC) had also ordered all educational institutions Government or private to provide transport facilities to students and halted the scheme to distribute motorbikes among students, emphasizing the need for buses instead.
