LAHORE: The School Education Department has sanctioned BS degrees as equivalent to a 16-year qualification, allowing over 16,000 teachers to be eligible for promotions.
BS degree holders were not placed on the seniority list earlier, rendering them ineligible for departmental promotions. Promotion was only given to teachers holding MA or MSc degrees under the previous policy.
A notice released by the department ensures that the new decision will be implemented in all schools operating under the School Education Department.
As per a private news channel, teachers holding a BS degree will also be eligible for promotions in the next meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC), as per the new policy.
