Govt extends revised school timings amid cold wave until Feb 4

KARACHI: The School Education and Literacy Department has extended the revised school timings till February 4 due to the ongoing cold wave.

The change applies to both government and private schools across the province. Classes will start from 9 am, while there will be no change in the closing times.

The department had initially implemented the revised timings on January 10 in response to the severe cold weather, directing schools to start from 9 am.

The latest notification confirms that these adjustments will remain in place until February 4.

A spokesperson for the department explained that the decision has been taken due to the severe cold weather prevailing across Sindh.

The department has decided to extend the new working hours following the instructions of Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah. Earlier, the working hours were extended till January 26 due to the cold wave.

Karachi is reeling under a cold wave, with temperatures likely to remain low throughout the week.

According to the Deputy Director of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the wind speed reached 45 kmph during the last two days.

The PMD Director also said that the temperature is likely to increase in Karachi in February, with two to three western weather systems affecting the country. However, no rain system is expected next week.

The following temperatures were recorded in different areas of the city: The coldest area was Jinnah Terminal where the minimum temperature was 10.2 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in Maripur was 14 degrees Celsius. Shahrah-e-Faisal recorded 12.5 degrees Celsius, Gulistan-e-Jauhar 11.5 degrees Celsius and Bin Qasim recorded a minimum temperature of 12.4 degrees Celsius.
