Is HEC Eliminating Subject of Pakistan Studies from University Syllabus?

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has made it clear that it has not made any decisions or recommendations to universities about the removal of Pakistan Studies from their degree programs, according to acting Federal Minister for Information Murtaza Solangi.

In response to a motion submitted by Senator Mushtaq Ghani, who asserted that Pakistan Studies had been eliminated from the graduation curriculum by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Solangi made this declaration.

The information minister told the Senate, “As per the concerned ministry and HEC, no decision or proposal has been issued to abolish the subject of Pakistan Affairs or any other course from the syllabus at the graduation level.”

According to Solangi, every undergraduate policy that the HEC has suggested complies with the minimal requirements needed for these kinds of programs. Universities function independently within the bounds of their own legislation, he continued.

The caretaker minister claims that all undergraduate degree programs now include a course on Pakistani ideology and the constitution. According to Murtaza Solangi, this subject combines Constitutional analysis with Pakistan Studies.

He said that in order to create a two-credit course that is required for all undergraduate degree programs, the HEC is now holding talks with pertinent stakeholders.
