ISLAMABAD: Now, even second division students can be doctors as the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has eased admission criteria for MBBS.
The criteria have been changed to prevent loss of vacant seats in private medical colleges. Anyone with 50% marks for MBBS and 45% marks for BDS can be admitted.
Individuals with fewer marks can now also take admissions in vacant seats in private medical and dental colleges. On this occasion, PMDC has relaxed the criteria for private medical colleges for the first time.
Earlier, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued new academic regulations for medical and dental students in the country.
According to the regulations, students need to obtain at least 65% marks to pass and have a minimum attendance of 85% in all medical and dental colleges.
The new regulations come soon after the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Punjab announced the same regulations, albeit slightly different in requirements, where the UHS required 90% attendance and a passing score of 70%.
The UHS has caught the attention of students as well, introducing a tracking system to directly monitor student attendance, and the students‘ respective colleges submit biometric records on student attendance every month.
The PMDC’s new regulations are intended to establish standards of academic excellence across the Nation to ensure standards continue in parity.
