LAHORE: In a positive move, the Punjab government has announced a thoughtful initiative to keep the students comfortable and healthy during the harsh winter months.
Beginning December 15, 2024, the School Education Department in Punjab has announced a relaxation in the uniform policy for all public and private schools. This allows students to wear warm clothing as they see fit, up to February 28, 2024.
Warm clothing is permitted under a variety of forms: sweaters, vests, blazers, coats, caps, socks, and shoes. Students are now free from the limitations imposed by the uniform policy.
The notification instructs that all Chief Executive Officers (DEAs) and heads of public and private school should ensure strict compliance with the policy. Schools are now directed to instruct students to wear warm clothing so that they are adequately protected from cold weather.
The Deputy Director (Monitoring) is also directed to upload the notification on the official website of the School Education Department for public awareness.
This development indicates the concern of the government for health and wellness amongst students. As it is often too cold in Punjab in winter to allow the children to warm up, such flexibility in uniforms ensures that no student has to brave inclement weather.
This initiative is a positive step towards prioritizing student safety and comfort. All schools in Punjab are expected to implement this directive in letter and spirit.
