LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has announced the school timings for the holy month of Ramadan in 2026.

Traditionally, the department reduces the length of the school day to relieve some of the pressure on students, teachers, and staff during the dawn-to-dusk fast.

The month of Ramadan 2026 in Pakistan will likely start on Wednesday, 18th Feb 2026, or on Thursday, 19th Feb 2026.

The regular schools are expected to operate from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm from Monday to Thursday, and from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays.

For the double shift schools, the first shift will operate from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, while the second shift will operate from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm, with Fridays operating from 2.30 pm to 5.00 pm.

Earlier, the government had prepared a new plan regarding holidays for schools and colleges.

According to a private news channel, the Punjab government has prepared a plan to reduce holidays in schools and colleges across the province to increase the annual academic days to 190 days.

In this regard, the committee has prepared a recommendation, under which the summer holidays will be reduced from two and a half months to 6 weeks (one and a half months).

The aim of this decision of the government is to improve the academic performance of male and female students and complete the educational curriculum. Private school associations have also supported this proposal.
