MUZAFFARABAD: Parts of Pakistan are experiencing cold weather, prompting the administration in Azad Kashmir to announce revised school timings to protect young students from extreme weather conditions.

As of December 16, Monday, all government and private schools in Azad Kashmir will operate on a new schedule. According to the revised timings, the schools will have their classes from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM during the week, except Friday, when the class timings will be from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This timing is devised so that students are not exposed to extreme cold weather early in the morning.

Currently, Pakistan is under a cold wave, with temperatures in Azad Jammu and Kashmir described as ranging from -14°C to -12°C. The Pakistani Weather Outlook suggests the cold wave will ease in most of the areas, while continental air is still present within the South Asian State.

In such cold-weather conditions, a shallow westerly wave is expected to approach from the north and west, providing further cold and dry conditions to most areas through the weekend.

Cold and partly cloudy conditions are predicted in the hilly areas of Kashmir: Weather-specific forecasts for various cities will see Jammu enjoying sunny conditions, with temperatures hovering between 3°C and 6°C. Garhi Dopatta will experience sunshine and possible thunderstorms on Monday.

Muzaffarabad will see sun on the horizon along with thunderstorms and rain expected on Monday. Rawalakot shall see sunny and mildly cloudy weather in the coming days with possible rains.
