KARACHI: The Sindh education department has taken a significant step towards reforming the education sector by deciding to terminate the services of school teachers who have been absconding from their duties in government schools across Karachi.

This move aims to boost education standards and prevent ‘ghost teachers’ from receiving salaries without attending work. Despite repeated warnings, these teachers have failed to report to their respective authorities.

The department has directed district and Taluka education officers to compile and submit a comprehensive list of absent teachers within two days.

This decision comes after a joint effort by the education department’s monitoring cell and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) identified teachers who have been receiving salaries for years despite living abroad or submitting fake medical certificates.

Earlier, the Sindh education department sacked eight ‘ghost teachers’ who were residing abroad and receiving salaries for the past two years.

The department has warned of strict action against absent teachers and has directed Taluka education officers across the province to identify and report such cases.

This move is expected to improve teacher accountability and ensure that education standards are maintained in government schools.
