KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet has approved a new system for monitoring student attendance to improve school attendance and reduce dropout rates across the province. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in which officials briefed the cabinet on the proposed system.

Under the plan, each student will be assigned a unique identification number, and schools will be required to record daily attendance through a mobile application. Officials said the system is designed to track attendance in real time and address absenteeism.

The chief minister said teachers will receive alerts in case of persistent absences, while monitoring will be done through live dashboards at the provincial and district levels.

He added that the system will work through teachers’ mobile phones, and data expenses will be included in the school budget.

The cabinet was also briefed on the proposal to provide 20,000 scholarships for students of public universities, with a focus on equipping youth with skills linked to the digital market.
