UET introduces Gaming, Animation as new degree program

LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Academic Council held its 235th meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shahid Munir, to discuss and approve new academic programs.

The council, comprising faculty deans, the registrar, and academic and administrative department heads, gave the green light to several innovative programs aimed at enhancing the university’s curriculum.

In the realm of computer science, the council approved the introduction of new Bachelor’s programs in Applied Computing, Information Technology, Gaming and Animation, and Information Systems Technology.

Additionally, an Associate Degree in Information Technology and Computer Engineering was also given the nod. These programs are designed to cater to the growing demand for specialized professionals in the tech industry.

The Mining Engineering Department will now offer MSc and PhD programs in Mineral Processing, following recommendations from the Board of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering. This move is expected to boost research and development in the mining sector.

UET’s New Campus will introduce a Bachelor’s program in Biomedical Sciences, as well as an Associate Degree in Applied Computing.

Furthermore, the council approved an MSc program in Process Plant Management at UET Lahore, featuring a distance-learning option with smart classrooms for MSc programs in Safety, Health, and Process Plant Management.

In response to recommendations from the Board of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design was also approved.

This program aims to equip students with the creative and technical skills required to excel in the field. According to Prof. Munir, these new programs are designed to align UET’s curriculum with industry needs and educational advancements.

The primary objective is to provide students with specialized knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to excel in diverse career fields and emerging sectors.
