LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Monday put rumors to rest that all schools in the province would be closed on Tuesday because of protests.
It is worth noting that the recent protests have created confusion among students and parents. “All schools in Punjab are open tomorrow according to the schedule,” he said.
Protests had been causing disruptions in many places for the last few days. The group, which started its march from Lahore on Friday, was marching towards Islamabad to organize a demonstration in favour of Gaza and Palestine outside the US embassy.
But their path was cut off by the authorities near Muridke, where protesters fought with law enforcement officials on Monday before being driven away, police said.
Following the clashes, parts of roads and motorways in Lahore and Islamabad were closed temporarily by the authorities, causing panic among the people and resulting in early dismissals in some schools in Islamabad.
Offices confirmed that amid the unrest, schools all over Punjab, including Lahore, functioned normally on Monday and will also operate according to regular schedules.
