ISLAMABAD: A fake notification announcing a three-day local holiday and the shutting down of educational institutions from October 14 to 16 has gone viral on social media, the authorities confirmed on Monday.
The officials have categorically declared that no such announcement has been made by any government department. The viral message announcing that all educational institutions will be shut down for three days has been termed as baseless and misleading.
The authorities concerned requested the public to cross-check information only through official government sources before posting it on the Internet. They even cautioned that disseminating false information will lead to unnecessary confusion and could trigger legal consequences under applicable cybercrime regulations.
The public is requested to disregard unofficial circulars and keep abreast of developments only from government websites or authentic social media handles of the government and education ministries.
