ISLAMABAD: Former Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has been released from detention after he was arrested last week by Israeli forces from the Global Sumud Flotilla, an aid convoy going to besieged Gaza, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed on Tuesday.
Dar, in a statement on X, stated that “former Senator Mushtaq has been released” and is now safely with the Pakistan Embassy in Amman, the capital of Jordan.
“He is in good health and high spirits. The Embassy stands ready to facilitate his return to Pakistan, in accordance with his wishes and convenience,” he wrote on X.
Dar extends gratitude to all friendly countries that actively engaged and assisted in this regard to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.
Earlier on Monday, the Foreign Office said that it is working tirelessly to secure the safe evacuation of former senator Mushtaq Ahmad.
“With the invaluable assistance of the Jordanian government, we are hopeful that the process can be successfully concluded within the next couple of days,” the FO said.
