ISLAMABAD: In a major relief to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ahead of the November 24 protest, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to party founder Imran Khan in the Toshakhana-II case on Wednesday.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb approved the bail plea of the former prime minister in the new Toshakhana reference and ordered his immediate release against two surety bonds of Rs1 million each, which separate guarantors must submit.

Meanwhile, the judge ordered the ousted prime minister to appear before the trial court following the bail. “The bail can be cancelled if you [Imran] do not cooperate with the trial court,” it added.

Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were apprehended in the new Toshakhana case on July 13, following their acquittal in the Iddat case the same day.

Earlier, the IHC granted bail to Bushra Bibi in the case last month against Rs1 million surety bonds, allowing her to be freed from jail. After month-long incarceration, the former premier’s wife was released from the Adiala Jail.

PTI founder, who remained incarcerated since his arrest on August 5 last year, is no longer wanted in any other case within Islamabad’s jurisdiction following the latest bail.

The couple was also sentenced to 14 years in prison and was handed down a fine of Rs1.57 billion in the first Toshakhana case, however, the sentence in the reference was suspended by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in April.
