ISLAMABAD: In a daring operation, Islamabad police successfully rearrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) prisoners who escaped earlier today after an attack on three prisoner vans.
The swift action by the police ensured that the escaped prisoners were taken back into custody, preventing further chaos and instability.
Earlier, Unknown armed individuals attacked prisoner vans carrying 150 PTI prisoners at Shangjani Toll Plaza, resulting in multiple high-profile escapes.
The vans were transporting suspects from Attock Jail for a court appearance on charges of terrorism and violence. Armed men opened fire and shattered windows, allowing several prisoners to flee.
According to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, 18 to 20 assailants including a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa MPA’s son attacked three prisoner vans carrying 82 incarcerated persons.
However, The PTI leaders including KP CM Gandapur have categorically denied allegations of involvement in the attack on prisoner vans in Islamabad.
In a strong statement, Gandapur asserted that the incident was staged, warning that the “drama” must be stopped.
Gandapur revealed that evidence points to SHO Tarnool breaking the van’s glasses with his own hands, implying a deliberate attempt to frame his government. He emphasized that policemen from his government have been granted bail, indicating a potential setup.
“We will not tolerate violence against our officials,” Gandapur stated, vowing to take firm action if necessary. This development comes amidst heightened tensions between the KP government and Islamabad authorities.
In addition, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sheikh Waqas has made shocking allegations that PTI members were forcibly removed from prisoner vans. “Our people are trying to be forced out of the prisoner cars. Our people are stubborn and refuse to run, they are all standing there. All the media are there.” Waqas stated in a video statement.
