Justice Yahya Afridi appointed as 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Justice Yahya Afridi has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, taking over from incumbent Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa on October 26.

The Ministry of Law issued a notification formalizing his appointment, which was approved by the President. Justice Afridi’s tenure will span three years, commencing on October 26.

Before his appointment, Justice Afridi held prominent positions within the judiciary. As the third-highest ranking judge on the Supreme Court’s seniority list, his nomination was approved by a parliamentary panel comprising government and opposition members with a two-thirds majority.

The bar councils across Pakistan have welcomed Justice Afridi’s appointment, recognizing his esteemed reputation within the judiciary. His extensive experience and distinguished career make him well-suited to lead the country’s highest court.

Justice Afridi’s appointment marks a significant transition in Pakistan’s judicial landscape. His leadership will shape the country’s legal framework and uphold the principles of justice.
