NEW YORK: The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on the situation in Somaliland, in which Pakistan categorically rejected the Israeli move to recognize Somaliland.

Addressing the meeting, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jadoon, said that Israel’s move to recognize Somaliland is yet another attempt to create instability in the region. He said that the forced transfer of Palestinians is a serious violation of international human rights and international law.

The Pakistani deputy representative told the Security Council that Israel has the intention to displace the Palestinian people from their land and transfer them to Somaliland, which is unacceptable in any way. He made it clear that Pakistan rejects any unilateral move to recognize Somaliland.

Usman Jadoon said that the Somali government is taking steps for stability and peace in the country and that external interference in such a situation can further worsen the situation. He said that Pakistan will continue to fully and unwaveringly support the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

Pakistan urged the Security Council to resolve the Palestinian issue through a two-state solution in accordance with UN resolutions so that lasting peace can be established in the region.
