PCB chief announces seven-member selection committee

LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi has announced the seven-member new selection committee of the national men’s cricket team on Sunday.

During the press conference, the Chairman of PCB told the media that there would not be any single chairman of the committee, however, all seven members would have equal powers. The chairman cricket board will have no role in the selection process of the team, Moshin Naqvi added.

The selection committee will consist of the head coach, team captain along with data analysts. Other members include former Chief Selector and cricketer Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousaf, Asad Shafiq, and Abdul Razzaq, PCB chief said.

Mohsin Naqvi while addressing media talk in Lahore along with members of the selection committee announced that PCB has restored the central contract of pacer Haris Rauf. On Feb 15, Haris’ central contract was terminated by PCB, following a probe into his refusal to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the tour of Australia 2023-24.
The federal interior minister confirmed that PCB will appoint a new head coach in the next 4 to 5 days. Furthermore, he added that the cricket board has shown keen interest in starting women’s PSL.
In addition to that, Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy 2025. He said, “The ICC team will reach Pakistan today to discuss arrangements for the tournament. We are upgrading three stadiums including Quetta and Peshawar. India will come here to play and we are not even thinking about them not coming.”
