NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
On this occasion, the two leaders shook hands warmly and talked in a pleasant atmosphere. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar was also present during the meeting.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Arab-Islamic countries meeting hosted by President Trump during the United Nations General Assembly session.
According to media reports, a separate formal meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Trump is also expected to take place tomorrow.
While speaking to the media in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the US President for his efforts to broker a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, stating that the US President is a supporter of peace and aims to establish global peace.
He added that President Trump also mentioned efforts to establish peace in his General Assembly speech.

The meeting was also attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly.
US President Trump described the meeting as his ‘most important meeting’.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Trump said that we want to end the war in Gaza, and maybe we can end it now.
He described it as a very important meeting for regional peace and appreciated the Indonesian President’s General Assembly speech, in which he called Israel’s security indispensable for lasting peace.
The meeting lasted about 50 minutes and discussed the situation in Gaza and the Middle East.
According to US media, President Trump expects Arab and Muslim countries to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza to facilitate Israeli withdrawal, as well as provide financial assistance for reconstruction and governance. However, no joint action plan was announced at the meeting.
Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar spoke to President Trump in an informal and pleasant atmosphere.
Before the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met and held informal talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Jordanian King Abdullah II, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Mubarak Al Sabah and Austrian Chancellor Christian Stoker.
