PESHAWAR: Another polio case has been reported in Kyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK)’s Tank district in an 18-month-old girl from Union Council Amakhel, according to media reports.
Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Islamabad, has also confirmed the case.
With this case, the total number of cases has reached seven in KPK in the year 2025, the highest recorded for in province.
The reason defined by the National Polio Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) is the limited reach of the polio workers in southern KP due to various factors.
“We are working closely with provincial and district administrations to reach every child,” the EOC said in a statement, urging parents to take the threat of poliovirus seriously and ensure their children receive polio drops during every campaign.
Earlier, a 33-month-old child in Bannu was confirmed to have polio virus, taking the total number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year to 6, according to NIH.
The NIH said that so far in 2025, 12 polio cases have been reported from across the country, including 4 from Sindh, one each from Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan. The NIH said that southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is still a polio-sensitive area.
