RAWALPINDI: A surge in dengue cases has alarmed citizens and healthcare workers in Punjab, particularly in Rawalpindi. On Wednesday, the Punjab Health Department confirmed 82 new cases across the province within 24 hours, with a staggering 69 cases reported in Rawalpindi alone.
The breakdown of cases includes four cases in Lahore, two in Chakwal, and one each in Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, and Sahiwal.
Over the past week, 459 new cases have been identified, bringing the total number of dengue cases in Punjab to 1,245 this year.
Moreover, to combat the outbreak, the Health Department has made necessary arrangements. Government hospitals are well-stocked with medicines, including treatments for dengue.
The department has also issued an advisory urging citizens to maintain clean and dry surroundings to prevent the virus’s spread.
In addition, citizen cooperation with health teams is crucial in controlling the outbreak. To facilitate this, the department has provided a free helpline (1033) for those seeking treatment, information, or wishing to register complaints related to dengue.
Health officials stress that vigilance and proactive measures are vital in containing the virus’s spread across the province.
